Liaden Giveaway starts midnight Monday December 5, 2016!

Friends of Liad and fans of science fiction, listen up! Here’s a chance for you to brighten your holiday season with a gift for yourself or a gift to give.

We – that’s Sharon Lee and Steve Miller – have seven (7) copies of the Brilliance edition of Sharon Lee and Steve Miller’s Liaden Universe® novel Dragon in Exile narrated by Kevin T. Collins – that’s an audio book on 2 disks, in MP3 format. If you’d like a chance to win one of these all you have to do do is … hold on. Getting ahead of ourselves.

So then, wait, first, the rules.

We’re giving away seven of these audiobooks – one a day this week, starting Monday, December 5 and ending with the drawing on Sunday, December 11 . If you win one book, we’ll ask you not to try for another.

So, we hear you ask, what does it take to win, anyway?

The rules are you need to do something to let us know you’re interested in receiving on of these rare items.

Do something? Yeah, well, we’re writers, we’re not mind readers, Jim. No secret words, no essays, not even a picture of you reading another Liaden book.

All you have to do is! Drop us an email saying “I want to hear Dragon in Exile” at the email address below and if your email is selected out of that day’s entries (we’ll be using a random number generator, so each day will probably have a different chance to win).  We will write to the lucky winner at the email address from which they sent their entry, so make sure it’s an address you check regularly.

No purchase necessary. We ask that no relatives of Lee & Miller, AND no employees of Baen, Brilliance, Audible, or Amazon take part. We’ll accept entries 23 hours each day for 7 days – from midnight our time (that’s US Eastern Standard Time) until 11 PM the following evening.  At midnight, it’s lather, rinse, repeat.

We will let the lucky winner know, via email, and a post on korval.com, after we’ve had coffee the next morning.

Oh, we need you to send your note to:  liadenuniverse@gmail.com

Lee & Miller add a Patreon page

Lots of readers are looking for more Lee & Miller words to read; some will soon find their way here, and some are showing up more often over at the Splinter Universe site. Also — Baen Books has just extended an offer for two more Liaden books from the authors — those contracts are in the works and should result in new books being turned into the editor in 2018 and 2019. Exact publication schedules are subject to change this early in the process.

In the meantime, readers and fans have been asking for ways to show extra support. In the “old days” of the interwebz several Lee & Miller sites had tip jars … and now, given the frequency of the request, Lee & Miller have joined Patreon, where you can offer a dollar or two — or whatever your limit is — each month to help the authors keep things even between royalty periods. Here’s the Lee & Miller Patreon page!

Brief Lee & Miller news

A reminder that Sharon Lee and Steve Miller will be doing an East Coast book tour in June. Expect them at genreshops and bookstores in Boston, New Hampshire, Albany, Philadelphia and in between. Meanwhile, the prime Lee and Miller info site, korval.com, is experiencing some technical issues and should return to service shortly.

Pinbeam Books, new and improving

We’ve had a busy couple years here at Pinbeam Books headquarters in the middle of Maine, but until recently you haven’t seen all that many signs of it here on our site.  We’ve been traveling in direct support of new work, and writing that new work, and putting the Pinbeam Books update on the to do list.

Now then, we’ve got a new schedule, and you can expect the updates to be more timely these days. There are some additions here, and if you’re a Nook user, better access to some items previously unlisted. Watch for an expanding linkage to other ebook sources, as well. Change is ongoing — some no longer relevant links will be removed or corrected as time goes on*.

Thanks for coming by — and enjoy.

*More Smashwords links have been updated!

Smashwords editions now available

Thanks to the expertise, and labor, of Roseanne Girton, Surfside, Moon’s Honor, and Technical Details are now available from the Smashwords site and will soon be in distribution to Apple, Blio, Kobo, Diesel, Sony, Page Foundry, Library Direct, Baker & Taylor Axis 360, Flipkart, and Oyster.

A note about these books:  They are published as ePubs only.  Also!  They, as all Pinbeam Books eChapbooks are DRM-FREE.  This means that they may be read on/with, if not All The Things, then very many of the things.  To wit, and according to Smashwords:  “Apple iPad/iBooks, Nook, Sony Reader, Kobo, and most e-reading apps including Stanza, Aldiko, Adobe Digital Editions, others.”

Kindle and Nook readers may of course find these eTitles at Amazon and BN, where they are also sold DRM-FREE.

Thank you for your patience while we finished this project.

In support of breast cancer screening

As many of you read, the Susan G. Komen group has withdrawn financial support from Planned Parenthood. The support was for the purpose of providing breast cancer screenings for poor women, and for various educational programs.

There’s an argument about why this has happened. Planned Parenthood says that the Komen fund has knuckled under to political pressure. The Komen folks say they have a policy! not to fund any organization under Congressional investigation.

This is not about that argument.

The point here for Steve and me is that this move means that breast cancer screenings have suddenly been made unavailable to a large number of women, when early detection is key, and through no fault of their own.

So, here’s what we’re doing. For the month of February, all income received from The Cat’s Job ebook will be donated to Planned Parented, in Hexapuma’s name, specifically for the breast cancer screening program.
